Former Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro has officially parted ways with Egyptian giants Al Ahly, delivering an emotional farewell message after a brief tenure.

The 49-year-old Spaniard joined Al Ahly at the end of May, just before the club’s FIFA Club World Cup campaign. After a 2-0 loss to Pyramids FC in the Egyptian Premier League on Saturday, his stay ended abruptly.

In a farewell video posted on Al Ahly’s social media channels, Riveiro expressed gratitude for the opportunity and the support he received.

“Thank you to everyone for being here. I think this shows the true meaning of the word ‘team.’ We worked together, and as we part ways today, I will carry great memories,” he said.

Riveiro admitted results were not what the club expected, but he emphasized the importance of unity.

“Projects can sometimes be started but never completed. Although we gave it our all, the team is what counts most. After leaving with wonderful memories, life continues on.”

Struggles in Egypt

Riveiro managed just four league games, winning once, drawing twice, and losing once. Al Ahly currently sits 13th in the standings with five points, far below expectations for the reigning African champions.

During the Club World Cup, Al Ahly drew 0-0 with Inter Miami, lost 2-0 to Palmeiras, and shared an entertaining 4-4 draw with Porto.

Other Coaches Dismissed Early This Season

Riveiro is not the only high-profile coach to face early dismissal this season.

  • Jose Mourinho was sacked by Turkish side Fenerbahçe after six matches, despite his decorated past with Porto, Chelsea, Inter Milan, Real Madrid, and Manchester United.
  • Ole Gunnar Solskjær was let go by Besiktas after seven games.

This trend highlights the growing impatience among big clubs with coaches who fail to deliver instant results.
