- Chiefs face Angolan side Kabuscorp in the CAF Confederation Cup first round.
- Both teams finished 9th in their domestic leagues last season but won cup titles.
- First leg to be played in Luanda, second leg scheduled for Johannesburg.
Kaizer Chiefs will kick off their CAF Confederation Cup campaign this weekend with a tricky away fixture against Angolan outfit Kabuscorp Sport Clube do Palanca. The first-leg clash takes place on Saturday at 17:00 (SA time) at Estádio 11 de Novembro in Luanda.
Both clubs enter the competition with similar stories from last season, underwhelming league finishes but redemption in domestic cup competitions.
Last Season’s Mixed Fortunes
Chiefs endured an inconsistent 2024/25 Betway Premiership campaign, finishing ninth with 32 points from 28 matches. However, they lifted the Nedbank Cup, ending their long wait for silverware.
Kabuscorp followed an almost identical path in Angola. They too ended the Girabola season in ninth place but clinched the Taça de Angola, earning their spot in continental football.
Chiefs In Rhythm, Kabuscorp Just Starting Out
Amakhosi have already played six league matches this season and look sharper going into this continental test. In contrast, Kabuscorp are yet to start their 2025/26 league campaign, though they recently featured in the Angolan Super Cup, losing 2-0 to Petro de Luanda.
Founded in 1994, Kabuscorp boast one Girabola league title (2013) and a Super Cup (2014). They made international headlines in 2012 by signing Brazilian legend Rivaldo for a one-season stint.
What’s Next?
The return leg will be staged in Johannesburg on 27 September. The aggregate winner will face either AS Simba of DR Congo or Comoros’ Djabal FC in the second round.
For Chiefs, the journey represents not just continental competition but also a chance to build on their recent domestic cup triumph and prove their growth on the African stage.
