Kaizer Chiefs have officially landed striker Khanyisa Mayo on loan from Algerian giants CR Belouizdad for the remainder of the 2025/26 season.

The 27-year-old marksman, who previously rose through the ranks at Chippa United and SuperSport United, arrives at Naturena after long-standing links with the club. He was initially expected to join Amakhosi before his Algerian move, but negotiations fell through at the time.

Now, he finally fulfils a boyhood dream donning the gold and black of the club he grew up supporting.

Patrick Mayo’s Fatherly Advice

His father, Patrick Mayo, a former Kaizer Chiefs player, offered heartfelt guidance to his son on how to handle the pressure of playing for one of South Africa’s biggest clubs.

“Playing for Chiefs is not the same as playing for any other team. The fans are passionate and always expect success. Khanyisa must double his efforts to show why he was signed,” Patrick Mayo said.

He also warned his son not to feel burdened by comparisons to his father:

“He must not see it as pressure that he is playing for the club I once played for. Khanyisa is his own player with his own style, and now is the time to build his own name at Chiefs. I believe he is mature and ready.”

Competition for Places in Attack

Mayo arrives at Chiefs after an impressive stint with Cape Town City, where he netted 32 goals in just three seasons. At Naturena, he faces fierce competition from the newly signed Flavio Silva (Persebaya, Indonesia), Etiosa Ighodaro (Mamelodi Sundowns), and LukeBaartman (Cape Town Spurs).

They join an already strong frontline featuring Ashley Du Preez, Wandile Duba, and Tashreeq Morris.

Chiefs’ Strong Start to the Season

Amakhosi are enjoying a bright start to their Betway Premiership campaign. Heading into the FIFA international break, they sit second on the log with 13 points, unbeaten and yet to concede a goal in their first five matches.

They resume action with a home fixture against Sekhukhune United at the FNB Stadium tomorrow night at 19:30.
