Cardoso Opens Up After Sundowns’ Goalless Draw

After his team’s 0-0 draw with Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium in Nasrec on Wednesday, Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso has publicly voiced his frustration and hinted that his job may be in jeopardy.

Cardoso’s anger stems from the team’s performance last season, particularly when Sundowns missed the chance to secure a second continental title after losing to Pyramids FC of Egypt in the CAF Champions League final.

Sundowns’ Mixed Start to the Season

So far this season, across seven matches in various competitions, Sundowns have won three and drawn four. When questioned about whether the draw against Chiefs put his job at risk, Cardoso responded sharply:

“Please ask another question because I don’t want to be humiliated,” he said.

He continued to express his confusion about the scrutiny he faces compared to other coaches:

“Is my crime that I drew twice consecutively against Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs? Why are other coaches allowed to draw but I am questioned? Perhaps some are trying to pressure me because I faced two of the biggest teams, but they fail to acknowledge how impressive these teams are. I really don’t understand why I am treated differently while other teams get poor results without similar questions.”

Looking Ahead: Stellenbosch FC Clash

When Sundowns play Stellenbosch FC in the Betway Premiership at Athlone Stadium in Cape Town tomorrow at 3 p.m., the Portuguese coach will have an opportunity to win over supporters.
