According to court documents, Ndiki initially owed over R500,000 to SARS. After interest of over R67,000 and penalties of R28,000 were applied, the debt skyrocketed to R600,000.
SARS sent Ndiki a final letter of demand on June 20th, threatening to take legal action if he didn’t pay his outstanding amount within 10 days.

SARS advised Ndiki to apply for:
- Debt suspension in the event that a legal dispute is filed.
- Reduction of repayment in cases of financial hardship.
Despite these options, SARS moved ahead with its court application after Ndiki allegedly failed to comply.
