Actress Nothando Ngcobo, best known for her role as Hlelo on Uzalo, says that while she loves acting, it’s important for performers to take breaks.

Ngcobo, from Hammarsdale, last appeared on the show in December last year. The actress stated that she will be making her first appearance this week post the break from the show.

On Friday we will see Simphiwe Majozi who plays the character of “Sbu”  still by haunted by a phone call from Hlelo. Hlelo’s storyline includes being arrested for child abuse, falsely accusing Sibongiseni (Siphokuhle Luthuli) of impregnating her to extort money, and even stealing while in prison.

Why Nothando Took a Break

Speaking to HAWU, Ngcobo explained her decision:

“Acting is fun, but sometimes you need a break because if you’re in a long-running series, you risk carrying your character into real life. It’s not that I wasn’t getting calls for auditions—I just don’t want to be famous for the sake of it. I want to play roles that tell the stories I believe in. I love Hlelo because she can do anything, and the writers can always take her anywhere.”

Life Beyond Uzalo

Ngcobo has been busy outside of television. She runs the Nothando Ark Foundation, a non-profit organization, and also owns a small business selling skincare products.

She says she is thrilled to be back on screen and promised fans that Hlelo will continue to deliver unexpected drama.

“The audience can expect more surprises from Hlelo. It’s always exciting. To my fellow women, I wish you strength during Women’s Month. We must not let the world’s challenges defeat us—we must push forward,” she added.

What’s Next for Uzalo Viewers

With her return, fans can look forward to more twists and turns in Uzalo’s storyline. Will Hlelo’s return shake things up in the community once again? We will just to stay tuned to find out.
