Award-winning DJ and producer Prince Kaybee has shared the heartbreaking news of his mother’s passing after a long battle with illness.
The musician, real name Kabelo Motsamai, revealed he was by her side during her final moments, holding her hand as she took her last breath.
On social media, he said,
“I’m holding you as you sit on the chair you died on, feeling your neck get stiffer as I kept on begging you not to leave me. I can’t even begin to describe how shattered I am, into fragments that will never come together. Thank you for everything, Oulady.”
A Son’s Pain and a Crisis of Faith
The Banomoya hitmaker has since opened up about the emotional toll of his mother’s suffering, describing it as deeply painful to witness.
“One of the most devoted individuals I have ever encountered was my mother. She prayed twice a day, sometimes overnight. I would listen to her cry in prayer through the walls,” he said.
Despite her devotion, Kaybee says he struggled to reconcile her faith with the suffering she endured.. He described her pain as “excruciating,” recalling her gasps for air and financial exhaustion that affected the entire family.
Memories of Love and Support
In 2018, Prince Kaybee renovated his mother’s home and surprised her with a Mercedes-Benz for Christmas, a gesture he says symbolised his gratitude for her sacrifices. Though initially sceptical of his career in music, she eventually gave him her full support.
“She would say, ‘Go be a policeman, soldier, or taxi driver. Your time is running out, and your son is growing,’” he recalled.
Despite disagreements, he emphasised that she was the one person who loved him unconditionally.
“The eldest person who loved me despite all of my imperfections is no longer with me. The only person I could share anything with without being judged.”
Grieving a Mother’s Legacy
Now 36, Kaybee says he feels broken by the loss.
“If she had to die, let her die. But not like this. Not to a point she couldn’t speak or hold her own hand up,” he lamented.
The DJ’s raw reflections have sparked conversations about grief, faith, and the painful reality of losing a parent.
