Sekhukhune Hand Chiefs First Defeat of the Season

Sekhukhune United ended Kaizer Chiefs’ unbeaten run with a commanding 3-1 win in their Betway Premiership clash at FNB Stadium on Tuesday night.

The highly anticipated match carried extra weight as both sides went into the fixture with identical early-season records and the chance to overtake Mamelodi Sundowns at the top of the log.

Grobler Strikes Early

It took just five minutes for Bradley Grobler to silence the home crowd, slotting home the opener and breaking Chiefs’ defensive record of not conceding in the first five matches of the season.

Chiefs hit back swiftly, with Flavio da Silva equalising before the 15-minute mark to set up a tense encounter.

Second-Half Dominance by Sekhukhune

Despite Chiefs controlling much of the first half and creating opportunities, Sekhukhune’s pace on the counter-attack proved decisive.

In the 50th minute, Grobler struck again to restore Babina Noko’s lead. Minutes later, Thabang Monare made it 3-1 after being set up by Grobler, sealing a memorable win for the visitors.

Chiefs Left Searching for Answers

The quickfire double stunned both Chiefs players and their fans, with frustrations echoing memories of last season’s inconsistencies.

For coach Nasreddine Nabi, who had emphasised the importance of this fixture as a test of their title credentials, the result was a major setback. Chiefs had entered the FIFA break unbeaten with four wins and a draw, while Sekhukhune carried the same record. This victory now puts Sekhukhune firmly in the title conversation.
