Dr. Nandipha Magudumana and Thabo Bester, have filed a lawsuit to stop Netflix from showing a documentary series on their life.
Beauty and the Bester is a three-part documentary series that explores their tense courtship and tragic end.
The couple has approached the courts claiming the series contains false, defamatory, and unverified claims that infringe upon their rights.
Netflix Announces Premiere on September 12
Netflix revealed that Beauty and the Bester will premiere on September 12, 2025. The series promises an in-depth look at Magudumana’s life, from her public persona as a respected doctor to her hidden involvement in Bester’s criminal activities.
The documentary reportedly highlights how she lived a double life—maintaining a high-profile career while secretly associating with Bester, a convicted killer and rapist, shocking both her family and the public.
Urgent Court Hearing Scheduled
The hearing is set for September 9, just three days before the series goes live. Legal representatives for the couple argue that the series undermines their dignity and misrepresents key facts, while Netflix asserts that it is based on verified interviews, public records, and evidence.
Notable public figures including Pearl Thusi and Penny Lebyane, as well as Nandipha’s father, Zolile Cornelius Sekeleni, make appearances in the promotional video.
Past Attempt to Block Streaming Platforms
This is not the first legal attempt by Bester and Magudumana. Previously, they sought to prevent Showmax from producing a program about their lives, but the court rejected the application.
If their latest bid fails, Beauty and the Bester will stream globally, offering viewers a glimpse into one of South Africa’s most infamous true-crime stories.
